Liar, Liar! (Part2)

HANDS UP anyone who has heard of Pinocchio?

For those who don’t know, he was the creation of Carlo Collodi, an Italian children’s writer.  The Adventures of Pinocchio was probably his most famous book.  In it, Pinocchio – a wooden puppet carved by Geppetto – dreams of being a real boy.  So far, so good.  However, the peculiar thing about Pinocchio was that every time he told a lie his nose grew longer. (1)

So how does this relate to Margaret Hodge?  Well, let’s just say that if she was appearing in The Battle for Barking (2) as Pinocchio, she’d be able to put your eye out at a hundred paces!

As we’ve noted already, Hodge seems to be an out-and-out liar (3).   Her first big lies comes just around a minute and a half into the film when she declares that Nick Griffin “hates women, he hates Jews and he hates immigrants and I’m all of them.”

In our previous article Liar, Liar! (Part 1) we proved that Hodge lied about Nick Griffin ‘hating’ women.  We’ll now move on to her allegation that he ‘hates Jews’.

We’ve looked at Laura Fairrie’s film again and didn’t come across anything that was said during the election campaign that indicated that he was anti-Jewish.

Neither did we see – or hear – anything in the run up to the election that would indicate this.

Can anyone show us one piece of official BNP literature – or point us to just one interview – in which he says that he ‘hates Jews’?  Neither are we aware of anything like this being produced just before or during the General Election.  Are you?

So where did Margaret Hodge get her information from?  Surely as a responsible Member of Parliament – indeed an ex-Minister – she wouldn’t tell porkies.  Would she?

One would have thought that Hodge would have been aware of the BNP’s position on Israel.  After all, she has enough advisors!

So the question remains – why did she state that Nick Griffin ‘hates Jews’?

Ironically, the only person who commented on her race/ethnicity/religion was Hodge herself!  (We understand that it was mentioned on a couple of web-based discussion groups – but that’s another story.  However, keep your eyes peeled because we’ll be commenting on this in a future article).

And we’re not the only ones who noticed that the only person who mentioned Jews during the Barking election was Hodge herself.

In his article The Battle for Barking (More 4 30/11/10) Reviewed (4), Larry O’Hara notes:

“Hodge’s most telling evasiveness came in an exchange with a BNP supporter as she was getting into a 4×4 vehicle.  He upbraided her for being a millionairess, one of those “thieving MPs” and having ignored paedophiles (an obvious reference to her tenure at Islington Council where she disgracefully swept allegations of child abuse in council-run children’s homes under the carpet).  Her response was to ignore these points, but to say “and you dislike me because I’m Jewish”.  As a BNP activist, he may well have been anti-semitic, so she might have a point–however (unlike him as far as I could see) Hodge deliberately racialised the encounter (as with the mixed-race couple earlier) to avoid addressing the arguments.”

Mr. O’Hara is an anti-fascist campaigner, so he’s hardly likely to side with Nick Griffin or the British National Party.  Yet he notes that Hodge plays the anti-Jewish card here.

As this appears to be the only time Jews are mentioned, we’ve looked at this incident again.  You should too – fast forward the film to about 1 hour 16 minutes.  Here you’ll see a British National Party election worker who’s expressing the anger and frustration felt by ordinary English working folks.

The BNP worker is a straight-talking Cockney.  He doesn’t look like the type of person who’s liable to mince his words.  In terms of race, ethnic origin or religion, he had the opportunity to call Hodge everything under the sun.  Yet he just makes mention of her German background.  Once again, Hodge was the only one to mention Jews.

So much for Margaret Hodge’s claim that Mr. Griffin ‘hates Jews’.

Just like her first statement (that he ‘hates women’) a simple little research is all that’s needed to blow this lie right out of the water!

Liar, Liar! (Part 1)

THEY SAY that if you’re going to tell a lie, then it might as well be a big one.  And boy, does Hodge tell lies.  She tells absolute whoppers!  In fact, she tells so many lies that we’re going to have to look at them one at a time.

At the very beginning of Laura Fairrie’s film The Battle for Barking (1) Hodge is asked why Nick Griffin, the British National Party leader, is standing against her.  She answers “Because he hates women, he hates Jews and he hates immigrants and I’m all of them.”

She’s allowed to make this fantastic claim without backing it up.  At no time does she offer any evidence for such a sweeping statement.  The film doesn’t show Mr. Griffin saying anything remotely like this.

Hodge’s claim that Nick Griffin “hates women” is surprising.  As far as we’re aware, he’s been happily married to his wife Jackie for around 25 years.  Jackie happens to be a woman.  He is also a father of four.  Three of his children are daughters – all of whom happen to be women!

If he “hates women” so much he has a funny way of showing it!

Seriously, however, as far as we’re aware, Mr. Griffin didn’t say – or do – anything during the last General Election that indicated that he hated women.  Indeed, we can’t recall the subject of women per se appearing in any of his election leaflets, posters or political broadcasts.  Can you?

If women were mentioned, it probably would have been in relation to Mr. Griffin’s position on militant Islam.

It’s well known that he is opposed to the ‘Islamification’ of Britain.  It’s our understanding that Mr. Griffin feels that militant Islam treats women as second-class citizens.  But this would put him in the position of supporting women – and not hating them!

We at All about Margaret Hodge and the Barking and Dagenham Sentinel are a little old-fashioned.  We believe that web-sites, publications and interviews should try to raise standards of debate and provide detailed information, not just soundbites.

We’re about telling the truth.  We seek to inform and let people make up their own mind.  Hodge, on the other hand, seems to rely on lies and misinformation.

Did Hodge break electoral law?

Filed under: Electoral irregularities? — Patrick Harrington @ 8:02 pm

WAS Margaret Hodge so desperate for votes that she broke the law?

That’s the allegation from some people as it emerged that she has been accused of breaching electoral law.  It’s said that she tried to solicit votes in polling stations whilst voters went to the polls last Thursday.
An agent for the United Kingdom Independence Party  claimed that Hodge had been seen inside at least two polling stations in her Barking constituency.

According to a report  in the Daily Telegraph, UKIP claimed “that Mrs Hodge, the culture minister, had used “undue influence” by speaking to voters inside venues, in proximity to where they were voting”.

UKIP say they will lodge a formal complaint to the returning officer in Barking.

The Labour Party haven’t denied that she was in the polling stations.  However, they claim that she was just saying hello to voters.

But, Kim Gandy, the agent for UKIP candidate Frank Maloney  said that Hodge was seen at one polling station with Labour leaflets.  Here she was asked to leave. She was then seen inside another polling station talking to voters.

Mrs Gandy said: “You do not do that. You do not go in there and talk to voters. To me it is undue influence.”

Conservatives say Barking Labour is in disarray

A TORY web-site feels that Labour MP, Margaret ‘Loads of Money’ Hodge could lose her Barking seat.  It has also largely written-off its own candidate there (1).

They were the stark claims made by conservativehome.blogs.com which is edited by Jonathan Isaby and Tim Montgomerie.

It also hints at a split in the Labour Party in Barking.  Whilst this may be wishful thinking (remember they are Tories!), we are aware of a lot of political in-fighting within the Labour Party.

Indeed on March 25 we featured an article – Take care Liam! – which looked at Liam Smith, the leader of Barking and Dagenham council.  Liam made statements to the East London Enquirer, which some have taken to be an implied criticism of Barking MP Margaret Hodge (2).

Meanwhile the Tory site has this to say about Hodge and the Labour Party in Barking:

“The Labour Party is in disarray, largely due to the activities of Margaret Hodge who has engineered the de-selection of a number of popular Labour councillors. Many of their hard-core voters are up-in-arms and have indicated that they will no longer support the party …this may well have the effect of a further thinning of the Labour vote.”

The site also notes that the selection of the Tory candidate – Simon Marcus – for Barking took place very late on in the game.  This is a disadvantage.”  Whilst the site would obviously like the Tory to win, it concedes that “it is not probable.”

The Tory site seems to confirm what other experts have said – that the Barking seat is up for grabs. Margaret Hodge is fighting on a very poor record and even many Labour supporters have shown a reluctance to campaign for her re-election. Principled anti-racists recalling her desperate  BNP-style, populist statements are deserting her to vote for the Greens.

Whilst Hodge is the sitting MP and Barking has been a safe Labour seat for years but it is possible that a political upset of historic proportions could happen.

So who will your money be on?

Hodge Exposed in Barking and Dagenham Sentinel

The Barking and Dagenham Sentinel - being delivered free to all homes in Barking – has dealt a crushing blow to the hopes for re-election of Margaret Hodge. Hodge stands revealed for her record on the Iraq war, her expenses claims and her failure to deal with serious child abuse when she was Head of Islington Council. The paper suggests that the ‘hold your nose and vote Labour’ approach would be immoral and inappropriate  in this instance. Many principled anti-racists are rejecting Hodge and instead intend to vote for the Green Party. Other committed Labour supporters are deciding to stay at home as no  genuine, principled Labour candidate is standing in the Constituency.

Please take the time to read this fantastic newspaper exposing the vile Margaret Hodge, MP. I say MP but hopefully after Thursday that wil be ex-MP. 50,000 of the printed edition of this newspaper are going out in Barking and Dagenham. It will certainly make people think there.

We want you to help spread the pdf  of this fantastic newspaper and the link to it around the Internet. You can:-

Save the pdf and send it as an attachment to your e-mail contact list
Post the link on your Facebook wall and Twitter
Post the link to groups and campaigns on Facebook

Get people re-posting and re-sending too. Let’s get this viral and dislodge Hodge!

Hodge claims critics are anti-semitic!

Filed under: Response to criticism — Patrick Harrington @ 4:17 pm
Tags: , , ,

You know a politician is desperate when they resort to seeking to hide behind their religious faith or ethnicity in the face of criticism. You know what we mean – “You’re only picking on me because I’m Black/Jewish/insert identity of your choice”. Margaret Hodge is a case in point. She comes from an extremely wealthy family and represents a poor, working-class area without actually living there. Yet it seems that it is anti-semitic to point this out! Yes, you heard right – anti-semitic.

She told the Jewish Chronicle:-

“They have painted me as a rich Jewish immigrant and they have repeatedly asked people if they know what my maiden name is.”

The JC goes on to point out:-

“Mrs Hodge, Barking MP since 1994, was born in Egypt, the daughter of refugee steel trader Hans Oppenheimer.”

Let’s straighten a few things out here. We have never made an issue of  Hodge’s faith background and (aside from the lunatic Nazi fringe) have never seen it drawn attention to by anyone. There are legitimate questions which can and should be raised about Hodge, her wealth and her ability to relate to the people in the Constituency in which she lives. We intend to intensify our efforts to get voters thinking about that. No amount of crying Wolf over alleged anti-semitism will deter us from that task.

IT LOOKS like this site is becoming more and more popular!  We seem to be getting linked to – and quoted on – various other web-sites.

As the General Election hots up, the issues in Barking seem to be taking on national importance.  And many people appear to see Margaret Hodge as a prime example of what’s wrong with the current system.

One of the first web-sites that mentioned us was the Green Arrow.  This appears to be an independent web-site produced in support of the British National Party.

Read the Green Arrow’s take on Margaret Hodge:

If you run a web-sites or blog or have a Facebook/Twitter account, why not mention our site?   Additionally, if you’ve seen us mentioned anywhere, why not let us know.

Help us to inform the public about Margaret Hodge MP and her many failings.

And don’t forget to take part in our fun poll!  Here you can decide if Margaret Hodge should stay as MP for Barking – or  go.

Margaret Hodge won ‘Big Brother’ award

Hodge: winner of Big Brother award

In 2004, Privacy International, a civil liberties campaign group based in London, awarded Margaret Hodge, the Labour MP for Barking in East London and the first ever Minister of State for Children, the ‘Big Brother’ Award for “Worst Public Servant” after she backed controversial government measures that trespassed upon personal privacy, enhanced the power of the burgeoning database state and helped compromise our hard-won civil liberties.

Hodge backed nanny state

Also, in 2004, she strongly defended the idea of greater state regulation of individual’s choices and supported more state interference in family life, particularly in the way we bring up our children, by declaring, “some may call it the ‘nanny state’, but I call it a force for good”.

Of course, Margaret Hodge plans to be ‘Super Nanny’ in any such state!

Votes against freedom

She has also strongly backed the power of the state to regulate our personal choices and tastes, including support for the smoking ban.

She has also rejected the idea of external audits on MPs’ allowances, opposed the strengthening of the Freedom of Information Act, voted against the idea of allowing legitimate protest outside parliament, backed controversial measures on terror suspects being subject to control orders with only limited judicial review, supported the Iraq War, yet opposed an investigation into its conduct and, significantly, strongly supported the forcing us all to carry ID cards, which will only bolster state interference into our lives. Hodge has voted against freedom.

Take care Liam!

Liam Smith the leader of Barking and Dagenham council needs to take care. He has made statements to the local press which some have taken to be an implied criticism of Barking MP Margaret Hodge. He told the East London Enquirer (1) that one reason the ‘far-right’ (he means the British National Party) was gaining support is that “residents don’t feel local councillors share the same values and live the same lives as they do”. Liam left school at 15 with no qualifications and lives in a council house in the borough. He thinks Councillors should have things in common with those they represent. Sadly his sensible comments provoked finger-pointing towards the millionaire Hodge. A cloud of suspicion and anger was said to be gathering over her lovely home in Islington! In his defence we should say that Liam wisely made no comment about MPs. He certainly didn’t comment on whether millionaire Hodge shared the same life as her constituents. He was speaking only of councillors! Perhaps he will avoid the fate of those who have riled ‘Enver’ Hodge.  Just watch your words Liam!

Hodge is a “control freak” – Labour dissidents

Filed under: Labour split — Patrick Harrington @ 8:08 am

Hodge: 'Control Freak'

Hodge was unpopular as a Council leader in Islington amongst some Labour activists who accused her of being domineering and dictatorial. In Barking and Dagenham a number of prominent councillors have been de-selected , including Val Rush, cabinet member for the environment, and planning chair John Denyer.

The Labour Left paper Tribune  (1) stated:-

”Asked what linked the councillors together, one activist said: “They’re all people who didn’t like Margaret”. Another declared: “She is a control freak and she wants total control… I can see the BNP controlling the council”.

As one blogger commented:-

“Hodge’s performance in the expenses scandal did not add to the tally of her admirers, and she was widely disliked, seen as an Islington millionairess who rarely visited the constituency.”

“To cut a long story short, Hodge had long ago fallen out with a substantial part of her CLP, and her supporters swung into action earlier this year, identifying and marginalising dissidents. As this included a number of local Labour councillors, it led to the deselection of several sitting councillors”

Several of the purged councillors have announced that they will be standing as Independent candidates in the local elections.  One local paper reported on the split and quoted Cllr Denyer at length:-

”And the fact they have used my disability as an excuse to de-select me shows them in a very poor light.

“Exactly the same thing has happened to Fred Barns who has been an excellent Thames Ward councillor.

“They are getting rid of ward councillors who have served their party and their community well.

“In their haste to change things the Labour Party has lost a lot of experience.

“I think this will come back to bite them.” told the POST: “I feel disappointed and let down by the Labour Party.”

Cllr Denyer also raised concerns over the opportunities these de-selections will afford the opposition party.” (3)
